Day 28 Soto De Luina to Villademoros 12.8ml 2674ft – Total 394.9ml 46302ft

Well, after a visit to the local ‘supermercardo’ to get some provisions for the day we set off on the mountain route and we must have survived because I’m here writing the blog this evening 😁. To be honest it was more like the “well marked with lovely views” description than the “don’t attempt it, you will die !” description, although, due to recent strimming, a lot of the path was littered with dead gorse and, believe me, dead gorse and walking sandals don’t go well together 😲.

A few very steep inclines took us up above the coast and although it wasn’t a very clear day the views on both sides of us definitely made the effort worthwhile.

It very much appeared that we were the only peregrinos walking this route (apart from two Spaniards who chose it by mistake and made their way back to the coastal route after a few miles). It’s a shame but apparently the hospitalera at the Albergue instigated the alternative coastal route and spends all his time now trying to persuade Pilgrims not to use the original mountain route. (I wonder if he put in the bad report on the internet πŸ™‚)

This was a full sized staff when I started out 😲

Lovely route down
I’ve been seeing these butterflies almost since day one but they’ve never landed long enough before for me take a photo. I got one today it’s a ‘speckled wood’ butterfly

No new trees today, however we did spot some strange pine cones growing straight out of trunks of the fir trees we were passing.

Is this normal ? Have I just not spotted it before ?

We are stopping in an apartment tonight, there’s about a dozen of them, just like little holiday cottages but in the middle of nowhere. Luckily the owner has offered to give us a lift to the nearest restaurant so I’m off now. Thanks for reading πŸ™‚

  1. Well, as Helen said, bet you’re pleased you chose to ignore the dire reports – what a good decision to walk the mountain route! Some fantastic scenery so good for us too!

Pine cones growing out of tree trunks – hmmm, dry weird! 😱 After a quick Google it may well be a Knobcone Pine (or family).

Still no photos of food – are you both on a diet?! πŸ˜‚

Happy walking! 😊 Sue C (Crowther) xx
