The weather forecast today said it was going to be 6° warmer than yesterday and it certainly felt that they were just about right during our walk today🥵.

I’ve spent two weeks now looking for a scallop shell to carry on my pack to show I’m a peregrino but not managed to come across one, (I have been using a cockle shell for the last week or so but somehow it just doesn’t have the same impact) however, today we stopped to have a look in Iglesia San Pedro on the way to Orena and the church curator was there, greeting people, stamping their ‘credencials’ and handing out fresh figs. The church was very nice inside and somebody had created a lovely effect with the lighting so I put a couple of euros in the donation box. The curator spotted this and just out of the blue gave me a scallop shell to take on the journey, how nice was that ?

All road walking today and it’s taking a toll on our legs and feet. It’s a surprise what a difference the constant hard surface makes.

Walked through the very interesting looking town of Cobreces today with an unusual looking church and a quite rare on this route, perigrino sculpture

Ended the day at Comillas, another town with some spectacular buildings including one of the only Gaudi creations to make it to the North. I have to admit I’m not too keen on this one but in his defence it was one of his earlier efforts.

Very close to Gaudi’s El Caprichio was the very spectacular Palace of Sobrellano, designed by Martorell

There are a lot more things to see in Comilles than we had time for and I think this city would be well worth a re-visit in the future.

So pleased that you now have a scallop shell- what goes around, comes around? I have to admit that I liked the Gaudi house – very quirky! Comilles looks well worth revisiting. Hope that the road walking will soon be behind you.

The pink church is “the church of Saint Peter Ad Vincula, a neogothic monument from 1894 by architect Emilio Torriente”. But it is the sculpture that catches my breath – like stepping out of one’s shadow – gave me goosebumps!

That’s an interesting comment about the sculpture. I never saw it that way but yes, now that you’ve pointed it out, I can see where you are coming from 🙂

Loving Comilles too! Yet again, a wonderful blog and beautiful photos. A slug followed by a cricket – whatever next?! 😂 Hope you get some off road walking soon. Photo of the scallop shell please (possibly with his little friend the cockle shell! 😊) Happy (hopefully a tad cooler) walking! Sue 😊 xx

Yes I thought the church was neogothic about 1894/1895, wasn’t sure about the Artitect though.
The journey should be easy now, you can always be sure of Shell !
Happy days
Keep walking

Further to your astounding knowledge, apparently the architect was Peruvian and it was designed in Peru but the architect never saw the finished product because he died before he could make the trip over to Spain 🙂

Sorry, that should, of course, have read Venezualian, not Peruvian 🙂
