Day 20 Llanes to Ribadesella 20.5ml 1756ft – Total 277.5ml 32023ft

First thing we did after breakfast yesterday was to take our clothes to the local launderette. Mmmmmm… it was just so nice taking the lovely clean, fresh smelling clothes out of the tumble dryer. Little things like that can make such a difference to how you feel 😸😸. Llanes itself was a very pretty compact little town sitting on the estuary of Rio Carrocedo. Lot’s of tourists but thankfully not too many. All in all a good spot for a day off and it was good to become one of the tourists and just slowly wander around with no heavy bag on my back.

So, blisters protected, sore spots covered, toenails cut and ibuprofen replenished (this is just me by the way) we set off this morning heading for Cuerres. You’ll note there, I said heading for Cuerres, whereas we’ve ended up in Ribadesella. A nice shortish day was planned, ending up at a wooden eco lodge in Cuerres, however, upon arrival there were sheets of paper waiting for us telling us that they had suffered seven infestations of bedbugs this year and therefore we weren’t allowed to bring anything in with us, including our clothes. We basically had to shower and change into the pyjamas that they had provided for us all. This didn’t appeal at all, so we passed one of our beds onto a German girl who hadn’t booked and really didn’t to walk any further whilst we carried on another 5 miles into Ribadesella. I bet they regret building a wooden eco lodge now as the the little tinkers apparently seem to thrive in it.

I do believe we’ve passed the halfway stage now πŸ˜πŸ‘£πŸ˜πŸ‘

The weather was far better for walking today. A lot cooler and less humid. It was so nice not to have all our clothes sticking to us at the end of the day πŸ₯΅

Apologies but I just can’t contain my schoolboy humour at the fact we passed through Poo today and then to find a sign with Pista on it as well was just too much 😁
Apparently they have a competition each year as to who can raise the Austurian flag the highest. The winner must be this one in Barro

They manhaul the largest eucalyptus tree they can find into the village, attach the flag and then the whole village joins in to raise it up and then somehow anchor it down.

Here’s a few other things spotted today

444Km, it’s getting closer

    1. More on bed bugs…”They can hitch a ride in luggage, purses, backpacks, or other items placed on soft or upholstered surfaces. They can travel between rooms in multi-unit buildings, such as apartment complexes and hotels.” Pretty resilient little critters then. But not keen on the smell of Lavender, tea tree or eucalyptus though. You could market your own anti bed bug eau de cologne and attract all the bees and wasps instead.
