Day 24 Polo De Siero to Oviedo 11.7ml 913ft – Total 333.4ml 38527ft

A very uncomfortable bed, lots of noise plus a constantly flickering emergency light last night meant that I got very little sleep and had no enthusiasm for walking this morning so it was just as well it was only a short walk into Oviedo today. Even so, once we reached the outskirts it seemed to go on forever. The devil’s water point Upon leaving the Albergue I asked where I could top up my water as we seemed to have a kitchen but no sink ?? There’s a water point outside he said. Believe me you have never seen water pressure like the pressure on this water point 😲. It knocked the bottle straight out of my hand, halfway across the lawn and it took my trousers until 10:00 to dry off 😬 The bright sunshine (and finding a place for breakfast after about 3 miles) cheered things up a bit as it always does and after crossing a very pretty mediaeval bridge we were soon entering the outskirts of Oviedo, as can be witnessed by the 100 metre high IKEA sign in the distance. I quite liked Oviedo which, although it wasn’t very large, had an impressive looking Cathedral and some equally impressive looking old buildings in the old town. Unfortunately we were unable to actually get inside the Cathedral due to the multiple weddings taking place in and around it. I tried my “but I’m a peregrino who’s walked 330 miles to get here” story, but that didn’t seem to hold any sway at all.
One of many weddings taking place around the centre
Oviedo Cathedral (from the outside πŸ™‚)
Traveling man, but definitely not a peregrino with those bags
Woody Allen, apparently he has declared Oviedo is his favourite city
We finished the evening off in a Vermouth bar. Two large glasses of Vermouth will hopefully bring me a good nights sleep tonight πŸ™‚

  1. Eleven miles – A short walk?! πŸ˜±πŸ˜‚. As you say, good job it was a little shorter with not having much sleep for the last 2 nights.

Can’t believe the water pressure outside the Albergue was so strong your bottle flew across the lawn! 😱 More wet trousers hey, let’s hope this is not becoming the norm! πŸ˜„

Wow! Oviedo looks lovely! 😍 Shame you couldn’t get inside the cathedral.

Happy walking for tomorrow (Sun). 😊 Sue C x

    1. It is a fantastic experience and I’m very lucky to be able to do it. I have to admit though that some days I just want to come home and live a normal life πŸ™‚. Luckily the good days exceed the bad. As long as that continues then so will I 😁😁
