Yesterday evening we were recommended a ‘sideria’ cafe in Ardiles and as we will be leaving Asturia shortly we thought we ought to try it. A little touristy maybe, but quite an experience all the same

You don’t get steaks this size at the Beefeater

You had to buy the cider by the bottle as more ended up on the floor than in the glass π
We knew the day was going to go fairly well today when we were wished “Buen Camino” by two nuns as we were leaving the lovely town of Aviles. And indeed it would have been an even better day if we hadn’t allowed two Spanish girls to persuade us we had taken the wrong route as we were leaving Santiago del Monte. To be fair, it did get very confusing at this point as the Buen Camino app on our phones made it look for all the world like we had suddenly started following the cycle route. Luckily I had another app on my phone that confirmed we were still on the correct route, however our Spanish girls and a German couple weren’t convinced and we had to leave them to their own devices. We’ve not spotted either of them again since π².
The Aviles church in the photo yesterday was open this morning and it transpires that it’s the Iglesia de Santo Tomas de Canterbury, one of the very few English saints to have a church in Spain.

A nice route today took us through eucalyptus forests and around a beautiful estuary just beyond the town of El Castillo. I’ll let the photos do the talking

Just one thing to add because Irene suggested carrying a hair dryer around the next time I do a Camino. At the last Albergue a gentleman walked into the shower area with his own hair dryer whilst I was having a a wash. I was just thinking “fancy carrying that all the way along a Camino” when I noticed that he didn’t even have wet hair ? Within seconds he had plugged it in, lifted one of his legs up and started drying his feet with the drier. I wanted sooo much to check out whether he had the hairiest feet since Werewolf in London but didn’t have the nerve to look closer π₯Ί
glad you explained the steak – I thought it looked like brains!
oh, such dramatic lighting in the Iglesia de Santo Tomas de Canterbury – does the camino from canterbury pass this way?
and I hope you collected lots of eucalyptus leaves in the forests to ward off those bed bugs.

Yes, I agree with Helen, the thing next to your chips did look a bit odd but half a cow?! π± Wow! π
You should have lay on your back on the floor with your mouth open to catch the spillage from your bottle of cider! After all, youβve paid for it! ππ
Ooh, wonder if you will EVER meet up with your fellow Spanish and German fellow pilgrims? π± Fallen into the great Camino black hole of choosing the wrong way?! π
Ooh, watch out for any full moons on your walk as you may have the hairy toed werewolf on your tail! (I know you have to look after your feet but a hairdryer?!) π±ππ
Great photos again! Happy walking! π Sue C xx

The Werewolf in the shower is probably just like the rest of us he canβt bend down to dry his feet anymore.
It will happen to you Derek one day !
