Day 30 Luarca to La Caridad 19ml 2057ft – Total 424ml 49350ft

Oh heck, not much to report today to be honest. We set off from Luarca fairly early (early for us anyway), as we knew we had a fair distance to walk today. I think because of this we met more pilgrims on route than we have normally been doing. We walked a bit with Heather from Newfoundland, a lovely lady and I wish I had just half her energy. We also walked a little with Etienne from Belgium, there seems to be a lot of Belgians on this route and a younger chap from Germany with very long legs and a bread baton to match.

It was cool with a slight drizzle when we set off but it soon cleared and warmed up as the day went by. I really can’t believe how lucky we’ve been with the weather. People keep telling us it’s very rare for Northern Spain to have a prolonged spell of such good weather at this time of year.

Back to the ‘all churches locked up’ scenario today and at one stage we came across a few Camino signs with anti fascist slogans and swastikas sprayed on them so I guess anti Catholic feelings are still very strong in these parts.

Nothing very exciting on the picture side either today I’m afraid, in part down to the fact that it was a bit of a slog through what was just every day countryside and I think in part because I’m getting very tired and in need of a day off (planned for Ribadeo on Sunday). Here’s some of the things I spotted along the way anyway 🙂

Leaving Luarca this morning
There’s obviously somebody artistic on the Way

The biggest pink and white marshmallows I’ve ever seen 😁
A whole hydrangea hedge, who’d of thought that was possible ?
The local launderette, but you have to be very short to use it
Our Albergue for the night. Somehow I seem to be the only one who’s had to take a top bunk ?

  1. Although you said it was a bit of a slog through everyday countryside you didn’t do too bad on the photo front!

Love the massive marshmallows and tiny persons launderette! (Can I say tiny persons?! 😱)

I’d have loved to have seen a photo of the young German with the very long legs and a bread baton to match! 😄

One day to go before your rest day! Happy walking! 😊 Sue C
