Day 40 O’Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela 14.1ml 1455ft – Total distance 570.3ml Total ascent 65012ft

Well that’s it, 570 miles later and here we are at Santiago (in the rain 🙂).If you’ve managed to stick with the blog so far then thank you for that.A mixture of emotions here but a couple of things I can say for certain are that my feet are very glad it’s come to and end ; Barbara has made a great walking companion and is far more capable than she thinks; and Spain is a beautiful country but appears to be made of ham and cheese.

Farewell from the pilgrims (til’ the next time ?)

Now, time to put my feet up 👍

  1. Many congratulations to you both; what a feat ( feet !?) of endurance! Hope that you can now relax in Santiago, and enjoy a meal that does not include ham and cheese. Already looking forward to your next adventure; thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I will miss my nightly fix of photos of your amazing journey, plus your witty commentary. Inspirational!

  2. DAY 39 – Well, i’m Going to start with a reply from yesterday’s walk seeing as WordPress has said it’s already posted but it hasn’t! Grrr!

Once again, fabulous photos Derek! Do not fret about rain on your lens, it makes the photo giving the conditions! 😊 (Terrible weather down here in the South of England too so today’s photos were a home from home for me! 😄)

Well, if you’ve had Elaine on your back all the way no wonder your toes and foot are giving you jip and Barbara seems to have no problems! 😂

Can’t believe it’s your last day (writing this on Tuesday 15th Oct)! 😱 Seems to have gone so quick!

Hmm, I agree, wasn’t sure about the restaurant made up of a thousand bottles (although the shed did look a little cute!).

Such a shame the little Cafe Verde is no longer there for the hand drawn credential stamp! 😪 As Barbara said, you now have a real rarity from your last pilgrimage. 😊

Happy walking both! Watch out Santiago, here they come! 😊 Sue C x

I agree with Val, really going to miss my fix of Camino blog! 😪

      1. Loved your blog and so thought you might like a bit of feedback each day but I did get carried away sometimes! 😂

As I have a dodgy knee (I think it came out in sympathy in the last couple of weeks! 😂) Not sure if a Camino is possible – the brain is willing but not the body! 😂😂 xx

  9. Just before we all disappear from this blog, don’t forget Derek’s initial Home page where it mentions his Justgiving page. Such a worthy charity.

DEREK WROTE: Same as last year I’ve setup a JustGiving page, https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/derek-truby1 , not because it’s a sponsored walk but if you should by any chance get a little enjoyment out of the blog and want to give a little in return then this gives you the opportunity. I’ve chosen an Alzheimer’s charity this year as it seems to becoming so much more prevalent in our lives. Thanks to your generous donations last year we managed to raise over £340 for a local hospice so thank you to everyone.
