Day 33 Lourenza to Abadin 17.1mls 3242ft – Total 474.5ml 56499ft

‘Into every Camino a little rain must fall’ and today was one of the days it fell. We really can’t complain after having almost 5 weeks of excellent weather so far but it wasn’t very pleasant walking all the same. Whether everything will dry out for the morning remains to be seen ☔☔.

Quite good weather when we left Lourenza

Ominous looking clouds starting to make an appearance

More monster pumpkins

but by the time we had got to our coffee stop at Mondonedo the mountain route that we were hoping to take couldn’t even be seen, never mind walked along.

I’ve never heard on Mondonedo and it only has a population of approximately 4500 but it is a city and has quite an impressive cathedral in the centre

Mondonedo Cathedral
Mondonedo plaza

Plus a rather swanky recently restored water fountain for the passing pilgrims

Having no map, compass or knowledge of the area we plumped for the lower level version of the Camino this time around. The mountain route went up to almost 3000ft and so we were very glad we made this decision as the rain and low cloud became more consistent as the day went on.

Not a lot to say about Abadin as once we got here the weather wasn’t very inviting to go back out and have a look around but the meal of the day provided by the Casa we are stopping in tonight was probably the best ‘meal of the day’ I’ve had so far, (cabbage and potato broth, followed by roast lamb and chips 🙂)

I’m going to take this opportunity to add a picture I took yesterday of the clothes washing facilities in the Casa we stopped at, just incase anybody’s wondering what type of facilities we get at these places

This is my super technical Lowe Alpine shirt that says something along the lines of ‘wash gently at 30°, wash separately, do not tumble dry etc. No mention of pummeling it with a bar of carbolic soap on a stone washboard under a cold tap then 🙂

  1. Shame about the rain but as you say, you have been very lucky with the weather so far (unlike over here, ☔️☔️).

Loved the swanky water fountain! 😊 Your Casa meal sounds Mmmmm! My kind of dish!

Bet in days gone by those washing facilities were the bees knees! 😂

    Happy walking! 😊 Sue C x
