Day 35 Vilalba to Baamonde 12.7ml 960ft – Total 501.6ml 58662ft

It was bitterly cold this morning. The mist was still hanging around from yesterday and the sun didn’t manage to get through it until the early afternoon. What a difference from just two weeks ago.
A bad start to the day as we had been directed to a cafe for breakfast and much to Barbara’s annoyance the guy behind the bar seemed to have no concept of what tea (te) was. No matter how many times and different ways Barbara asked for tea she just got a grunt as a reply and a different type of coffee was placed in front of her 😬
The route between Vilalba and Baamonde today was very rural and hardly any road walking until the last couple of miles

Really low cloud and mist in the valleys

Nothing special about Baamonde. It seemed to be just an everyday little town until we found out about the 500 year old chestnut tree that had been carved inside its hollow trunk by a local artist to prevent it being chopped down. From there we noticed signs pointing to the artist’s house and to his garden which was open for the public to wander around. The garden was full of his (Victor Carral) sculptures and was very tranquil to wander through in the now lovely warm sunshineInside Victor Carral’s chestnut tree

Next to the house was this beautiful restaurant / bar with the front all covered with grape vines

Reluctantly we said goodbye to our Canadian friends, Mario and Julie today. Because they have walked this Camino before they have decided to cut it short and fly down to Alicante before the weather turns to the rain forecast for Sunday and Monday.

We’ve met up with them practically every day for the last two weeks or so and we shall miss them

  1. Oh my! Really love these photos – loving the rural part of this journey! The restaurant looks fab – liking the bedsteads either side of the table (if that’s what they were)! πŸ˜‚

Barbara – note to self for next time – pack tea (te) bags! πŸ˜‚

The carving inside the tree is amazing! 😱 Must read up on Victor Carral.

Shame Mario and Julie have left the walk. πŸ˜ͺ

    Happy walking! 😊 Sue C x
