I took this photo yesterday but then forgot to include it. The all important thing (apart from being a rare photo of Barbara) is the little plaque half way down that states 100.459km (to Santiago) Icy cold start again this morning and the first mile or so felt like we were walking along a motorway hard shoulder. Every time a lorry went past us it was followed by a blast of freezing cold air that we had to turn our faces against. It was short lived though, and as soon as we got off the road we were into a lovely wooded area and almost instantly came across the Chapel of St Alberte along with Spain’s equivalent of the Blarney Stone where the Spaniards come to drink from if they want the ‘gift of the gab’. Not something that many Spanish people seem to lack at the best of times.
Chapel of St Alberte with the ‘Blarney stone’ in front The route continued through lovely woodland, with Eucalyptus on our left and pine trees on our right and was a pleasure to walk through. After a few miles, just as we entered a small village we heard music and voices and were very surprised to come across another artist / sculptor exhibiting his art in his garden and front room. Even better, he was stamping pilgrims credentials with a wax seal and offering cherries soaked in a huge jar of kirsch to anyone who wanted one.
Sculptor at work but unfortunately I didn’t manage to get his name
Straight after leaving the sculptor we came across a lovely cafe and it would have been very easy to spend far too long in it
but being the highly disciplined pilgrims that we are, we only spent a little too long πWe were aware that there were no more services after this cafe so we were prepared today and found a lovely spot for some bread, goats cheese, olives and yoghurt.

We are at our Albergue for the night now and evening meal is due to be served very shortly so I’m going to have to call it a day here but here’s s couple more pictures from today’s walk. Enjoy

Great to see the two of you smiling at the start of the final 100km – a huge milestone – the rest will go far too quickly (:-)

beware – if you rest too long you will turn to stone like the pilgrim in your other photo. Hee Hee

Thank you Valerie, there would be more pictures of Barbara but she’s very reluctant to let me take them. She will soon be back to join you now. Take it easy on her poor legs for a while π

Lovely to see from a rare pic that you have nβt parted company with Barbara, and that she has nβt yet turned into a garden ornament! Still enjoying your blog enormously; I love getting that ( usually )late evening instalment. What an achievement, with just over 100km to go! Hope you both continue to savour the final few miles.
